Something to Think About

Daily Insight’s from Psychologist Adam Grant

To kick start 2025 I bought myself Adam Grant’s “Something to Think About” Calendar. Adam Grant is a Harvard-trained psychologist and researcher who is well known for his research on how people can find motivation, meaning, and creativity at work. He frequently posts bite-sized “insights” on social media. The daily insight calendar (which takes quotes from his research) is a nice chance to give yourself a “mindful moment”, or break in the day.

Keeping on theme with the “Let Them” theory, when we focus our energy outward - on meeting other people’s expectations (people pleasing), hopes and ideas for us- we tend to lose ourselves.

This focus on external validation can be really damaging to our identities, boundaries and overall well-being. When we bring the focus back to ourselves, we are regaining an important measure of control. I like how Grant calls this a “commitment”. Much like how we prioritize commitments we make to other people, let’s also take that level of seriousness with regard to how we treat ourselves.
